Dear friends and fans,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am thrilled to announce that, after eight long months, my battle with writer\u2019s block is over. Today, I have written my first poem of the year, and I am utterly delighted to share it with you (below). The poem, titled Poem, sits somewhere between Romantic and Victorian poetry (Romanvic), and is loosely inspired by the work of Byron, Keats, Shelley and Adele.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whilst I don\u2019t wish to blow my own trombone (and it is important to remember that this is my first new poem in a long time \u2013 go easy on me, dear reader!), I think it might just be the best poem of the decade, and I suspect it will start appearing on school syllabuses in the not-too-distant future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poem<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I am sitting in a<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  cafe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     I have ordered a            flat<\/p>\n\n\n\n

white<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and a sausage<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            roll.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The man next to me<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    is<\/p>\n\n\n\n

           wearing sunglasses<\/p>\n\n\n\n

       indoors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He\u2019s an<\/p>\n\n\n\n

idiot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My flat white just arrived<\/p>\n\n\n\n

in<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  a<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    takeaway cup<\/p>\n\n\n\n

even though i am sitting inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I asked the barista for a<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                                             proper cup<\/p>\n\n\n\n

but apparently         they<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          are not doing<\/p>\n\n\n\n

proper cups at<\/p>\n\n\n\n

       the moment because         of<\/p>\n\n\n\n

covid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The man in sunglasses<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  is<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  now<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      on  his        <\/p>\n\n\n\n

laptop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He\u2019s an idiot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I hate it               when people<\/p>\n\n\n\n

       use<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            laptops<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                   in cafes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is vulgar and<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        distasteful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My sausage roll just arrived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sunglasses man<\/p>\n\n\n\n

           just asked if<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      I know<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  the Wi-Fi password.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I told<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  him<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                 no.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(It<\/p>\n\n\n\n

is    <\/p>\n\n\n\n

espresso.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He\u2019s an idiot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The barista just<\/p>\n\n\n\n

               came over and told<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     me and the sunglasses man<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                  that the cafe has a<\/p>\n\n\n\n

               \u201cNo laptops\u201d policy<\/p>\n\n\n\n

during the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I explained to him<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  that this is<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                  actually<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                               an<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                                   iPad<\/p>\n\n\n\n

but he did not seem to care<\/p>\n\n\n\n

so I am going to have to<\/p>\n\n\n\n

finish<\/p>\n\n\n\n
