Novlr’s New Look: An Exciting App Refresh

Novlr blog cover

We’re thrilled to announce that Novlr is getting a bit of a refresh! While the update is still two weeks away, we want to give you a rundown of a couple of changes that will happen to the way Novlr looks, how we’re evolving, and what you can expect in the next couple of weeks. We’re also running a competition to have your writing featured on the Novlr homepage.

We’ve been working incredibly hard to give the website and app a visual refresh, and we can’t wait for you to see it. It’s been a real labour of love.

Why the change?

We want Novlr to be a place where you can come to escape the clutter, immerse yourself in your stories, and achieve your writing goals. We want to inspire creativity and create a calm, distraction-free space where you can focus on what’s most important; your words.

You asked, we listened

We took all your feedback on board from the latest rebuild to make this design refresh all about enhancing your writing experience. We want to create a design that’s more cohesive and easier to navigate and use.

To achieve this, you will notice subtle colour changes that create a calm and uncluttered writing space. We are also updating the fonts and layout throughout the app to create a more modern and streamlined feel that better represents the next stage of Novlr’s evolution.

An evolving design

Along with a colour refresh, we are updating the Novlr logo. It will keep the spirit of our current book-themed logo, but better reflect Novlr’s evolution into a dynamic platform for all creative writers at every stage of their journey.

We’re combining this more modern design with our signature British Library illustrations in subtle ways to keep your writing space beautiful but leave your words as the real stars of the show. We are also redesigning dark mode with a more subtle evening feel that is lower in contrast, and therefore easier on the eyes.

Our competition writing prompt

Be a part of Novlr

We have the very last design element to put into place, and for that, we’d love to include you, our writers. We’re running a writing competition to feature three writers’ work on our newly designed homepage.

Write up to 200 words based on the image prompt above, and we’ll choose three of our favourites from the entries. You can write anything from a poem, the start of a short story, a piece of flash fiction, or even the beginning of an essay. Your words will have pride of place on our newly refreshed website with credit, and we’ll also include a free month of Novlr Pro for you, or a friend.

You can read the full Terms and Conditions here, and please send all entries via email to [email protected] with your name and a profile picture.

At Novlr, we’re committed to preserving what makes our platform special while also updating it to represent what we want to become.  We’re so excited to share this news with you, and you can expect the update in two short weeks!

We appreciate your feedback and welcome any comments or questions you may have in the meantime. We hope that our new look will inspire you to create your best work yet.
